Emory Young Dems,

I hope everyone has been having a great summer. In addition to Senator Obama's campaign in Georgia (a state he will be making a big priority this year), there will be other opportunities to help Democrats running for office in the first two months of school. The next biggest race in the state is Jim Martin's campaign for US Senate. Martin went to a run-off in the democratic primary (with Dekalb Country CEO Vernon Jordan), but trounced Jordan in a run-off held just over a week ago.

Internal polling done by the Martin campaign shows Jim down just 6 points to Saxby Chambliss, and the latest Rasmussen poll (done in mid July) has him down only 11. This is definitely going to be a competetive election, and with Obama running strong in the state, this race is moving up the rankings of potential pick ups for the Dems.

If there is interest, we would definitely like to organize some YDE volunteer opportunities for the Martin campaign. They have been in touch with us, and are eager to have our help. If you are interested, respond back to the conference, or send an email to me or Arika Smith (YDE President). That's all for now, but stay tuned for announcements about meetings and events for this school year.

YDE Executive Director
