Sitara is an all-female South Asian dance team at Emory University. Founded in 2000, Sitara is known for its unique fusion dance productions and drive for unison and perfection. We combine many styles of dance, both Indian and Western, including Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Modern, Bhartha Natyam, Kathak, Bhangra, and Garba. Sitara performs at a variety of events on Emory's campus- Emory Diwali, Cafe Unity, AHANA, and the International Cultural Festival. We also travel to competitions in the southeast region and more recently at national events like SASA (South Asian Students Alliance). The group constantly works together utilizing our own individual talents and abilities to create stunning performances. All choreography, music, costumes, lighting, fundraising, etc. is done as a group. Sitara holds auditions at the beginning of each academic year for new members. |
