The Apple Tree is a story of love and temptation. Divided into three acts, the musical explores the costs of getting the thing you desire most. The first act, based on Mark Twain's The Diary of Adam and Eve, offers a twist on the story of the first couple. The second act, adapted from Frank R. Stockton's short story "The Lady or the Tiger?" takes us to a kingdom that has a very unique system of justice where a young princess must make a difficult decision that will ultimately end in the loss of the man she loves. Act three tells Jules Feiffer's story of Ella, a chimney sweep who gets her wish to become a beautiful Holywood starlet only to learn that fame comes at a cost. The Apple Tree tells the problems of desire.

In this musical comedy, six young people encountering the tribulations of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who wish they could revisit childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. This hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. This unlikeliest of hit musicals features the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of misfits for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they truly feel they belong.
