WMRE LOCALSFEST 2009!

Localsfest is an annual event hosted by WMRE highlighting up-and-coming Atlanta bands through an imtimate concert, which in previous years has drawn locals acts such as the Coathangers, Manchester Orchestra, Mastadon, The Whigs, and the Selmenaries. The concert is always free and open to the public!

Localsfest 2009!

This year's Localsfest, set for February 13 2009, will be headlined by local powerpop group Poison Arrows who describe themselves as "More power than pop." "Trace elements of Nick Lowe, Cheap Trick, the Boys, and Slade bare a distinct mark on the group's strutting guitars and sneering pop songwriting," which has given the talented group opportunities to play shows throughout the US and internationally including at this summer's coveted South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas (Creative Loafing, 12/3/08). The band recently released an EP on Chicago's Full Breach record label followed by another single on local Die Slaughterhouse Records. (More information on the Poison Arrows at http://www.myspace.com/poisonarrowskill )

The Localsfest will also feature The N.E.C., a great contrast to Poison Arrows with their modern, "dense, psychedelic rock and dirty, paisley garage sounds" (Creative Loafing, 1/14/08). The NEC have a full length studio album, Million Minks, a 7-inch EP, and have also been featured on The Void Skateshop's video, "Totally Normal Humans." They will be promoting the February release of their 7-inch split with The Jovonates on Double Phantom Records. (http://www.myspace.com/thenec) Carnivores, formerly known as Chainstereo, will be opening the show with their "Walls of distorted sound" and with luck the keyboardist's, "Early-Patti-Smith=esque vocal performance" on their return to Atlanta from a Tour-de-New York City (http://megwilhoite.weebly.com/1/post/2008/07/chainestereo-at-pianos.html).
