A new perspective
New community representative will broaden Wheel

Spending long hours sitting at the Dobbs University Center Information Desk gives one the opportunity to interact with a broad cross section of the Emory community. Just ask College senior Latoyin Rorie.

Middle East peace difficult, yet not impossible to realize
By Rachel Berger
Columnist

There has been much talk in the international media and around campus about Israel recently. The parade of images, as well as biased and misinformed commentary (on both sides) has made it difficult to separate myth from reality. It is also quite challenging to extract what is really going on, but, having studied in Jerusalem last semester, I hope to shed some light on the current situation. I am pleased that Emory students have been attending on-campus lectures and programs, as well as participating in a LearnLink forum on this subject and I hope that this column will spur further discussion.
Islam's glorious history
By Ameer Shaikh
Columnist

As Europe slept through its dark ages, Islam and its civilization were busy redescribing humanity. Muslims, from the seventh century until their expulsion from Spain in 1503, were civilization: No other existed.
Credit cards require responsibility
By Thomas Stephens
Columnist

I read with much interest the issues pertaining to credit card bills in the Nov. 3 edition of the Wheel. For those who have their credit card bills forwarded to Mommy and Daddy to take care of, this is not very familiar. But for those out there who pay their own bills, like me, reading about such matters is familiar terrain in which to be. To those tempted to get a bunch of these cards, assuring themselves that they can handle the bills in a dignified manner, let me paint these real-life scenarios, concerning how many students with such thoughts later deal with their credit card bills. Hopefully, they will give things a second thought.
