Dean responds to criticism over comments
This past week several concerned students brought to my attention a group photo in the 1998-99 Dooley's Diary that shows a person apparently in blackface at the Kappa Alpha 1998 Halloween party. The insensitive and offensive nature of this display by one of our students and the toleration of such by the group is appalling.

Unified Emory deserves more than apathy
Students for a Unified Emory held a meeting Sunday night to update interested students on the progress of their cause. For nearly an hour, Emory student leaders involved in the cause explained why blackface is wrong, why administration inactivity on the subject is wrong and why the Kappa Alpha Order is wrong.

If KA picture smacks of racism, other yearbook photos also guilty
by Rebecca Katz-Doft
Columnist
It is my understanding that from a Dooley's Diary picture of one Kappa Alpha member, the conclusion has been drawn that the presence of an individual with dark paint on his face is an obvious form of blatant racism and discrimination.

Jones' outrageous demands only harms race relations
Even if the picture from a Kappa Alpha Halloween party that appears in the 1998-99 Dooley's Diary depicts a member in blackface, even if KA is guilty of this "blatant display of racism," even if KA's charter should be revoked, College senior Amos Jones is still wrong.

My pleasure; columnist answers fan mail
A grate man once said, "Get off of the grate, you lousy kids, you're gonna let the gator loose." But it was a great man who once said, "Read your mail and answer it - for the mail is like the wind, except the wind doesn't require a stamp."

Melissa Ross to be remembered at all night dance-a-thon
Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of College sophomore Melissa Ross' death. She made one mistake on one night by ingesting one drug that ended her life. In the wake of this tragedy, her mother asked that we learn something and not take our lives for granted. She wants us to remember that we are not invincible and that actions can have grave consequences.

Jones' demands deserve consideration from Emory students
I, like many students, initially reacted negatively toward Amos Jones' suggestion of an African American studies requirement. Distribution requirements are already enough of a hassle, but after having thought the issue over I now feel it might be a good idea.

SPC criticizes Emory for not appreciating task of finding a band
You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can never please Emory people.
Adam Warden Spring Band Party Chair
Om Kakani SPC President
Finally, after much inquiry and effort, Emory has finally found out that Blessid Union of Souls will be headlining this year's Spring Band Party. Funny how that the Wheel was able to share this seemingly invaluable piece of information with us, the common plebeians at Emory.
