SGA Positions
In addition to the legislative committees and various task forces, there are a number of ways - either through election or appointment - that you can get involved with the Student Government Association. The following list of SGA positions is separated into two sections: Elected Positions and Appointed Positions. Whether appointed or elected, each position demands dedication, responsibility, and accountability to the Student Government Association and the Emory community. If you are interested in joining the SGA, there is a spot for you. Use this list to gauge your various areas of interest. If you have questions about how you can get involved with the SGA, please contact the President or anyone in the cabinet.
Elected Positions
Executive Branch
These positions are elected via university-wide elections each Spring semester.
President: The SGA President is responsible for upholding and enforcing all policies, rules, and codes of the SGA. The President also serves as an ex-officio member of every legislative committee and the Graduate Senate. Additionally, the President serves as an active member of the University Senate and the official SGA liaison to the Emory University administration. The President also presides over all meetings of the Executive Cabinet of the SGA and meetings of all divisional presidents. He or she makes all appointments to fill vacant positions on the Constitutional Council, Cabinet, or vacancies of the Representative-at-Large seat on the SGA Legislature, subject to legislative approval.
Executive Vice President: The SGA Executive Vice President calls all legislative meetings and presides over these meetings as the Speaker of the Legislature. In the event that the President of the SGA leaves office or is unable to perform his or her duties for an extended period of time, the Executive Vice President shall succeed to the office of President. He or she is also responsible for appointing all legislative committee chairpersons, subject to legislative approval, and serves as an ex-officio member of all these committees. The Executive Vice President also forwards all approved legislative acts to the President for final approval.
Vice President for Programming: The Vice President for Programming is the student who is elected to serve as the President of the Student Programming Council -- the programming branch of the SGA. In addition to running the SPC, he or she is responsible for advising the SGA about the programming and social needs of the student body.
Legislative Branch
Except for Representatives-at-Large, these positions are elected via divisional elections.
Divisional Representatives: The SGA Legislature is composed of 35 divisional representatives whose responsibilities include enacting all legislation necessary and proper to promote the general welfare of the student body and the University. Past projects have included soliciting funds for various campus events/programs, construction of permanent structures across the campus, and changes in University policy that directly affect the student body. All members of the SGA Legislature are appointed to one of the legislative committees and are responsible for attending each committee meeting. Additionally, representatives are charged with the duty of seeking student input to determine the agenda of the SGA Legislature. To learn how you can become a divisional representative, contact the President of your division .
Representatives-at-Large: SGA Representatives-at-Large are voting members of the SGA Legislature whose responsibilities are the same as other legislators, but unlike other representatives, they represent all students of the University rather than a particular division (such as the College, Medical School, Law School, etc.). The four Representatives-at-Large are elected during campus-wide SGA elections in the Spring semester of each year.

The duties of individual Executive Assistants vary depending on the position, but responsibilities typically include assisting the Executive member in their day-to-day tasks.
