Freshmen Representatives

Alex Kappus
Alex Kappus is a freshman in Emory University from Cleveland, Ohio. After being heavily involved in student leadership activities throughout his high school career, Alex decided to run as Freshman Representative Legislator for Emory’s Student Government Association (SGA). Following his election to SGA in the fall of 2006, Alex was appointed onto the Financial Interest Committee (FIC). Alex’s intended fields of study are Political Science and Philosophy. His future plans include attending law school and pursuing a career in law and social justice. In addition to his duties on SGA, Alex is a member of the Student Alumni Association, volunteer coordinator of RHA, treasurer of Emory Pro-Life, member of the Pre-Law Society, and a volunteer at the Genesis Shelter in accordance with Volunteer Emory. Alex is also active in the Catholic Center and enjoys both participating in intramural sports with his residence hall, Alabama, as well as attending E-Team events. Elana Kanel
Elana Kanel is a freshman from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and is planning on majoring in international business and Middle Eastern Studies. She attended the Emerging Leaders Retreat and currently serves as one of three Freshman Representatives. She is on the budget committee and is working on revising the monetary code. Elana is currently engaged in discussions regarding the Skylab, would like to work on getting shuttles to stop at various places on campus, and is open to suggestions from the freshman class regarding changes they would like to see on Emory's campus. She is also involved in Hillel on the First Year Students Hillel board, Emory Students for Israel, Pawsitive Outreach, the Freshman 2010 Class Gift Committee on the Publicity Committee and Selection Committee, the AIPAC Cadre, a lobby host, and College Republicans. Sophomore Representatives

Jeremy Barr
Jeremy Barr, a sophomore in the College from Rockville, MD, is currently pursuing a major in Political Science. In addition to his role in the Student Government Association, he serves as the Member At-Large on the Executive Board of the Young Democrats of Emory, and is a student member of the Academic Standards Committee. Prior to serving on the SGA as a Sophomore Class Representative, he was a staff writer for The Wheel, covering student government and other news. As a legislator, he has worked diligently on a number of different initiatives. His main focus is on issues relating to dining, as both a member of the SGA Contracted Services Sub-Committee, a Sub-Committee Chair, and member of the Food Advisory Committee, he often works closely with officials in Emory Dining and Sodexho. As a Sophomore Class Representative, he works mainly on issues of particular interest to members of the Class of 2009, and is always interested in feedback from his peers. Graduate Representatives

Chris Lue
Chris Lue is a sixth year student in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry. Before moving to Atlanta in 2001, Chris attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA where he earned a BS degree, also in chemistry. His childhood was spent in Tampa, FL. Currently, Chris is SGA legislator representing the GSAS. Besides being a legislator, Chris has also served as treasurer for both the graduate student council and Pi Alpha, a graduate student organization in the chemistry department. Additionally, you may find him running some experiments for the undergraduate physical chemistry courses.
