One of the three key principles of Alpha Phi Omega is Friendship. Friendship is fostered throughout all our members, and especially through various fellowship events. The fellowship chair each semester organizes about a new activity each week. With cosmic bowling, movie nights, pumpkin carvings, theater shows, family potlucks and so many more, there are opportunities for all brothers to come together to enjoy exciting events, around campus and around Atlanta.
Intramural Sports is also a large part of the fellowship of the chapter around campus. With softball, basketball, football and volleyball during the year, many brothers come out to display their athletic talent or to learn a new sport. The large enthusiasm and excitement encompassed within these sporting events demonstrates the friendships between brothers.
Each spring semester, Delta Kappa hosts their annual semi-formal. With previous locations at Turner Field and Piedmont Park, the chapter comes together to dance the night away. Other chapters in our section are also invited, and typically, members from the UGA chapter love to make an appearance.
Previous Fellowship events include:
Cosmic Bowling
Movie Taverns
First Fridays
Theater Shows
Potluck Dinners
Intramural Sports
Trips to the Museum
Dinners
TV Show Parties
Mocktail Night
Braves Games
Hockey Games
Under the bylaws, fellowship events count toward service hour requirements. For every hour of fellowship, half an hour of service is awarded. However, if participating in IM Sports, full hours are awarded, for a maximum of four fellowship hours.
Chapter Families and Big-Little Pairing
Closer friendships are made within brothers in respective families. In Delta Kappa, there are currently four families all derived overtime. The families include the Magic 8 Balls, Sex Kittens, Deceptions, and Cardboard Cutouts. Brothers are sorted into their respective families during clue week during their pledge semester. Members of the Big-Little committee pair each pledge with a big brother to help guide their little brother during their time in Alpha Phi Omega. The Big-Little relationship helps create a stronger connection between fellow brothers, and the families help create a tighter community within the chapter.
The family challenge takes place throughout the whole semester and points are awarded frequently. It is a competition between the families to see who has the most points as the end of the semester. Points are awarded for wearing Alpha Phi Omega shirts, trivia, games, family dinners, or any way determined by the Historian. The historian keeps track of the family challenge along with the family trees and keeps a scrapbook of the chapter’s memories.
